South Branch Emergency Services, Inc. was one of over a dozen agencies that responded to the fiery crash that trapped the driver on Van Syckels Road in Union Township shortly before 2:10 p.m., the squad said.

The extrication required several additional resources including a heavy-duty rotator wrecker provided by Superior Towing and three coordinated plans that culminated in a successful extrication in about 90 minutes.

The driver was then to a trauma center in PA via NorthStar medical helicopter for further treatment.

“This was the second commercial truck accident in the last 2 weeks where many of the same volunteers and staff came together to help remove a patient from an accident involving a prolonged and technically challenging process,” said SBES. “Due to the training available to our departments, and the regional teamwork shared between those assigned, the team had a successful outcome…We wish the patient a speedy recovery.”
